This Homemade Ranch Dressing is creamy, flavorful, and so easy to mix together with simple ingredients you already have. It has that classic cool and herby taste you love, but with a fresh homemade flavor that makes it even better. It’s the kind of simple little recipe that can make salads, veggies, and easy dinners feel extra delicious.

I was in a rush to make one of my recipes for dinner the other night, and imagine my surprise when I suddenly realized that I had no Ranch dressing.
You probably don’t realize how abnormal that is. I am one of those people that has like all these different condiments and sauces that I hold onto for years and they expire and I still have like 3 bottles of them in my pantry. So it was weird to me that I didn’t even have a single bottle, not even an expired one.
We did have to get a new fridge recently when our old one stopped working, so I probably threw our opened bottle out, but like I said above I would normally have several unopened bottles for back up.
I make my Caesar dressing from scratch every time because it’s so easy and delicious and my mom has literally the best recipe she handed down to me, so I decided to see if she had one for Ranch as well, and guess what, she did.
So I got her recipe, and made a few adjustments of my own… and oh..my…goodness. It was so simple, but so much better than any store bought Ranch I’ve ever had. So I decided to share it with you.
Make this Homemade Ranch Dressing recipe when…
- you are like me and you run out of store bought Ranch

Ingredient notes…
Here is what you’ll need to make this Homemade Ranch Dressing recipe. Please be sure to check the recipe card for the exact ingredients and measurements.
- Mayonnaise: Forms the creamy base of the sauce. If you don’t like it, you could probably use all sour cream, or even sub Greek Yogurt, but just be aware that will change the taste.

- Chives: Used dried chives if you are planning on storing this for more than a few days long. I used fresh because it’s all I had on hand and I was using up all the dressing.
- Parsley: Use dried parsley flakes. For flavor.
- Dill: Use dried dill weed. For flavor.
- Garlic powder: Used for flavor.
- Onion powder: Used for flavor.
- Salt: Used for flavor.
- Black pepper: Used for flavor.
How to make it…

My tips and tricks to make this Homemade Ranch Dressing recipe…
Heathier: Greek Yogurt would be considered “healthier” than mayo and sour cream would be. So you could always substitute Greek Yogurt for some, or all of the other two ingredients.
Traditional: Traditional Ranch usually asks for buttermilk, but honestly who usually just has buttermilk just sitting around in the fridge? I know I didn’t. It’s not something I normally cook with, and I like to share recipes that use mostly ingredients that you would have in your house already. So that’s why I didn’t use it in this recipe. If you wanted to be more traditional, you could use it in the place of the sour cream.
Storage notes:
Refrigerate: Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and enjoy within two weeks. It will taste even better the longer that it sits.
Freeze: I don’t recommend freezing this recipe.
Are you struggling right now?
- then I would suggest just using store bought Ranch dressing to save on the time and effort if possible
- if not possible, this recipe is already as easy as it can possible be.

My burnout situation…
As I get farther into my healing journey I just find more and more that healing isn’t linear. Every day is different and I can be doing so good and really feel like I’m making some progress and then suddenly wake up the next day and everything is different.
But I refuse to give up.
And one of the biggest lessons I’m learning is to not just throw all my progress away because something doesn’t work out or isn’t perfect. I’ve struggled with that for a long time.
There is a saying that is basically like, “if you had a hundred one dollar bills and you dropped one of the dollar bills, would you throw away the other 99 simply because you dropped one?”
Progress is a lot like that. I need to just keep going, and remind myself that tomorrow is a new day, and try to make each day the best day possible.
Conclusion…
This was a little bit of a different recipe this time, but I hope it still comes in handy to the people that need it.
I hope you like it.
Take care of yourself.
